Social

The social side of life can be looked at in two distinct ways namely family bonds and the hierarchical way the parish was run. In this way social could almost mean paternal with certain families, frequently landed, provided facilities and the chance of the parishioners to have treats in life. Sunday school outings were a prime example of this. There will always the time honoured pastime of having a drink at one of the local hostelries or those of other persuasions the church or chapel and these opposing facilities often spawned clubs for sport. Over the years the parish of Sprowston seems to have catered for pastimes both genteel and strenuous, the game of cards round a table, knitting, cycling or playing strenuous ballgames all were catered for with facilities now provided by both the Town Council and private sports clubs.
