The White Woman

The Elizabethan legend concerns the sightings of a ghost, which over the centuries is said to visit the parish church of Sprowston. It is thought that the ghost is that of an Elizabethan lady who married the owner of Catton hall. She was not a well lady and unfortunately died on the night of their wedding. She retraces the route to the venue of her wedding on its anniversary. The stock (animals) along the route have been known to cavort inexplicably in their fields at this time.

The lady became known as the "white woman" after whom White Woman Lane was named. This has of course now been developed for housing.
