Brickmakers Arms Public House
Brickmakers Arms Public House
The Brickmakers Arms on Sprowston Road like the Blue Boar Public House has moved from its original site. Not this time due to any road widening scheme but simply to provide a more up-to-date and larger premises. Was it a coincidence or a clerical error that when built in 1867 the owner was Thomas Jermy but the first licensee was Thomas Jarmy who was a Sprowston brickmaker. It makes it even more questionable whether after short time with John Pratt as the licensee the next person to hold this post was Thomas Jermy can there really have been both a Thomas Jarmy and a Thomas Jermy. Perhaps further research will uncover the truth? Horace George Harrison was the licensee who transferred from the old premises to the newly built ones some 300 yards further towards Wroxham in 1931. As with other public houses belonging to Steward and Paterson, were transferred to Watney Mann finally being sold to a private company. Under their stewardship the premises while still being a public house specialises in live music having quite a reputation.
