Up until the 1950s Corbet Avenue was a purely residential road. This however changed with the construction of the Lone Barn Road housing development when a series of shops were built on either side of Thornham Road. These provided the local residents with a grocery shop, butchers, newsagents, launderette and a fish and chip shop.
