Roger de Sprouston

Sir Henry de Sprouston

Roger de Sprouston was Lord of the this Manor about the reign of Henry III (1216-1272), and at this time Master of St. Giles Hospital in Norwich, held 20 acres of Land. As appears by ancient record sans date, wherein it is specified that his villains were to mow and shear his lands, each villain 2 days; to be kept at that time by the lord, and to have for their dinner one loaf of barley, each of them; eleven of which loaves made a bushel, and a herring, or fish, and cheese of the price of a quarter of a farthing, and at this time the master of St. Giles`s hospital in Norwich held 20 acres of land of this lord.

In the 16th (1288) of Edward I (1272-1307), Adam de Creting, Lord of Sprowston Manor, had the presentation to the church of Plumstead Parva.

Reginald de Sprouston was lord, and presented to the church in 1300, and 1307.

1325- Henry de Sprouston m Margaret ……….

Sir Henry de Sprouston`s daughter married John Aslake and inherits the Manor.

Hugh de Sprouston presented in 1335.

William de Witchingham and Robert de Yelverton had a interest herein in the 35th year (1362) of Edward III (1327-1377), they gave the patronage of this church to the Priory of Norwich.

1391- In the 14th of Richard II (1377-1399), Roger Crispin of Sprouston and Mary his wife, surrendered by fine this lordship, called late Sir Hugh Sprouston's, to surrendered by fine this lordship, called late Sir Hugh Sprouston's, to John Aslake of Bromholm from the heirs of Mary, probably a daughter of Sprouston; and in the 14th of Edward IV. Thomas Aslake and Elizabeth his wife passed it by fine to Walter Aslake, quit of the heirs of Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Thomas Bardolf, as is said. Reginald de Sprouston m Teophania ………. He is mentioned in a Quit claim of lands at Rackheath by Agnes, daughter of Roger de Parva of Rackheath, formerly wife of Robert de Bacsterley to Thomas Heyham, Rector of the church of Little Rackheath and Robert, son of Nicholas de Heyham, of three acres of arable land and 11/2 acres of heath with appurtenances, and certain buildings, curtilages, barns, ditches, etc., in the said tenement and also a certain dower chamber, which she holds for life of the said Thomas. Witnesses: - William de Sutton, Sheriff of Norwich and Suffolk, Nicholas Bidel.

In Suffolk there was a William de Sprouston, son of Osbert de Sprouston, was mentioned in regards to a land dispute near Ipswich, (3rd year of Edward1st).
